The Many Faces of S.

It started as a game but soon it became a passion.

Who is the mysterious S.?

S. for Schefflera arboricola ‘Luceana’, a potted plant in my living room.

And the game that became a passion?

The game was photographing this same theme with different lenses, at different times and lighting conditions, from different angles and using different techniques. I didn’t think that it would last for a long time but then it became a passion and it developed into a project; testing new lenses and refining the technique. This was an on-off relationship with S. At first there were long intervals between the photoshoots. I would notice S. in an interesting light and rash to get my camera. Then I forgot all about it for a long time but steadily I started to visit S. almost every day to check for a new perspective. Then I got a new lens or a new camera and had the urge to try it out. S. was always there waiting, smiling, tempting.

At the end I used 15 different lenses and 4 different cameras (three of them film cameras with three different films). All pictures were taken using the available natural daylight. I also tried out single and in-camera multiple exposure techniques including ICM photography to capture the different faces of S. All in all it was a fascinating photographic experience.
