It’s the second or third Covid 19 lockdown in Greece – I lost count – and I have already finished two larger and a couple of smaller photographic projects under strict quarantine conditions, mainly nature close-ups and macros in my garden. There isn’t much that I haven’t explored in this setting and the question is ‘what’s next’. Then I remember Sudek. I do a lot of research in these bleak times and I recall something that I read about ‘The Window of My Atelier’, Sudek’s series of pictures taken from his studio’s window. I start to get excited! To quote Sudek, “everything around us, dead or alive, in the eyes of a crazy photographer mysteriously takes on many variations, so that a seemingly dead object comes to life through light or by its surroundings.” How true. And of course, the experiment was to do what Sudek did with great mastery, to look on the world from my window, in the sun and in rain, each time differently. Sudek focused on one window. I took the liberty to look on the world from the numerous windows of my home. Suddenly I discovered a new world, so close, so familiar, so engrossing.
